“Our team is composed of innovative leaders with proven records of success and a growing portfolio of properties. Like our portfolio, we’ve grown our team organically through focus, hard work and commitment to values.”
BC Wood Properties was founded by Lexington native Brian Wood on a simple but powerful premise: Investing in shopping centers that serve middle-class America is not only good for community development, it’s good business.
Since 1994, Brian has pulled together an exceptional team to bring this vision to life: an attorney, a CPA, leasing managers, on-site maintenance crews … Together, we’ve transformed over 5 million square feet of under-utilized retail real estate into profitable investments.
Today, our occupancy rate is 4% higher than the industry average and we are ranked in the Top 60 of all retail real estate companies in the U.S. based on portfolio size.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Brian gained his expertise in the construction and real estate industries the old-fashioned way: through hands-on experience. As a kid, working on the farm with his grandfather taught him important lessons about strong work ethic. When he was a teen, he began detailing cars, which led to owning his own carwash business. While in college, Brian worked in the construction industry, where he earned his role as a project manager for a large residential construction firm.
After obtaining his BA in Finance and Management from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY, Brian began building single-family residential and multifamily rental units for resale and investment. At just 22, he purchased a 31,000-square-foot retail shopping center, which he owned and managed while continuing to build and expand his construction business and residential rentals to 100 units. Through the process, Brian chose to focus on retail real estate and organized BC Wood Companies (later renamed BC Wood Properties) in 1994 to engage in the acquisition, ownership, management, and redevelopment of shopping centers. In 2001, Brian was one of the founders and largest shareholders of Royal Palm Bank. He grew the bank and sold it in 2006. For the past 24 years, Brian has overseen the growth of BC Wood Properties, and continues to have a hands-on approach to growth.
Brian is a Lexington native and is very active in the community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Transylvania University and the Advisory Board for Central Bank. Brian loves sports and has competed in 4 half Iron Man competitions and 4 marathons. He is an avid supporter of University of Kentucky Athletics.
Brian supports many charitable endeavors and has received various service awards. This year BC Wood Properties was the presenting sponsor for the United Way 5K on the Runway, and the 1st Annual BC Wood Properties Golf Classic to benefit The Foster Care Council. Brian and BC Wood Properties continue to support these and other philanthropic organizations including: Lexington Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Society, God’s Pantry, LexArts, Young Life, American Diabetes Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, 4-H, The Salvation Army, Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, Fayette Alliance Foundation, and the Lexington Hope Center.
